The Generic name for Allegra is Fexofenadine.
Allegra (fexofenadine) is an antihistamine used for the relief of symptoms caused by seasonal allergic rhinitis (hayfever) and also used to treat skin itching and hives. Histamine in your body produces symptoms of itching, runny nose, watery red eyes, sore throat and sneezing, known and rhinitis or hayfever.
Allegra’s antihistamine properties work by reducing/blocking the natural histamine chemical level in the body which produces the rhinitis/hayfever symptoms, which then decreases your allergy symptoms effectively.

Children 6 to 11 yearsRecommended dosage of Allegra is 30mg tablet twice a day
Adults and Children 12 Years and Older
Recommended dosage is 60mg twice a day or 180mg once a day.
Tablet form: Take with a full glass of water. You can take with food.
Disintegrating Tablet:
Take tablet on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before you eat or 2 hours after a meal.
Please follow the instructions below on how to take the disintegrating tablet.
- Keep the tablet in the blister pack until it is time to take the medication.
- Open the packet and peel back the foil. Do Not push the tablet through the foil as you may damage the tablet.
- With dry hands, take the tablets and put it in your mouth, allowing it to dissolve. Do not swallow the tablet whole and do not chew, just let it dissolve
- Swallow several times as the tablet dissolves. You may drink liquid to help swallow the dissolved tablet.
Store Allegra at room temperature and keep away from moisture and heat.
Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Allegra, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is about time for your next dose, do not take the missed dose and just continue on your regular scheduled time. Do not take extra Allegra to make up for the missed dose.What to avoid when taking Allegra
Avoid using antacids within 15 minutes before or after taking a medication that contains fexofenadine. Antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb this medication.Do not take fexofenadine with fruit juice (such as apple, orange, or grapefruit).
Avoid taking any other cold or allergy medicines unless your doctor has told you to.
Side effects of Allegra:
There can be some common side effects when taking Allegra. The side effects you may experience are:- Nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach
- Menstrual cramps
- Drowsiness
- Headaches
- Muscle or back pain
These are very uncommon side effects which most people will not experience.
Get emergency medical help if these side effects occur:
Hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking Allegra and call your doctor if you have fever, chills, body aches, cough, or other flu symptoms.
Allegra is not recommended for people taking ketoconazole (Nizoral), or erythromycin. Do not take if you have kidney disease, or are allergic to any drugs, if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor about any other medications you are taking including vitamins and minerals, herbal products and over the counter medications.
