The Generic name for Flonase is Fluticasone Nasal.
Flonase (Fluticasone Nasal) is a steroid used to help treat nasal seasonal symptoms that plague many allergy suffers such as congestion, sneezing and runny itchy noses. Flonase is a water based, prescription nasal spray that works by relieving inflammation within the nasal passages. It can be used either for seasonal attacks of hay fever or for year-round allergic conditions.

Adults:The recommended starting dosage is two sprays in each nostril, once a day.
One spray in each nostril, taken twice daily is also effective.
Maximum total daily dosage should not exceed two sprays in each nostril.
Children 4 Years and Older:
The recommended starting dosage is one spray in each nostril, once a day.
Maximum total daily dosage should not exceed two sprays in each nostril.
To take Flonase:
- First, blow your nose
- Shake the spray bottle gently, prime the pump 6 times, away from your face, if it hasn’t been used during the past week. Spray until a fine mist appears.
- Tilt your head back, press one nostril closed and insert the tip of the bottle a short way into the other nostril.
- Spray once, pull the tip of bottle away from your nose and inhale deeply through the treated nostril.
- Repeat with the other nostril.
Store Flonase in an upright position at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Throw the medication away after you have used 120 sprays.
Missed Dosage
Take Flonase as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.What to avoid when taking Flonase
Before using Flonase, tell your doctor if you are using antibiotics such as ketoconazole, or HIV medicines such as ritonavir. While using Flonase, tell your doctor if you have severe or ongoing nose bleed, vision problems, sores in the nose that won't heal, or if you have fever, chills, body aches, or flu symptoms.Avoid getting Flonase in your eyes. If this does happen, rinse with water and call your doctor.
Steroid medicines can affect growth in children. Talk with your doctor if you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while using Flonase.
Side effects of Flonase:
While taking Flonase, you may suffer some mild side effects. This is not a complete list of side effects. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.- Headache, back pain
- Minor nose bleed
- Thinning or softening of skin
- Menstrual problems, loss of interest in sex
- Sinus pain, cough, sore throat
- Sores or white patches inside or around your nose
Below are very uncommon side effects which people generally do not experience
Get emergency medical help if these signs of allergic reactions occur:
hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking Flonase ands contact your doctor if you have any of these side effects:
- Severe or ongoing nose bleeds
- Sores in the nose that wont heal
- Vision Problems
- Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
Not recommended for people who
Before taking Flonase, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any form of drugs or if you:- Take antibiotics such as ketoconazole
- HIV medications such as ritonavir
- Taking prescription or over-the-counter medications (including vitamins, minerals and herbal products
