The Generic name for Nasonex is Mometasone Nasal.
Nasonex (Mometasone Nasal) is a steroid that fights and prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Use to help treat nasal seasonal symptoms that many allergy suffers experience such as sneezing, congestion, itchy red eyes and runny itchy noses. Nasonex works by relieving the symptoms of hay fever and inflammation within the nasal passages. It can be used either for seasonal attacks of hay fever, year-round allergic conditions and nasal polyps.

Adults and Children 12 Years and Older:Take this medication as it directed by your doctor. Do not take larger amounts than directed
The recommended starting dosage is two sprays in each nostril, once a day.
One spray in each nostril, taken twice daily is also effective.
Maximum total daily dosage should not exceed two sprays in each nostril.
Your doctor may recommend you start using Nasonex 2 to 4 weeks before the start of allergy season to help lessen allergy symptoms.
To take Nasonex:
- Blow your nose gently.
- If using the spray for the first time, shake the spray bottle gently then prime the pump, away from your face, until a fine mist appears. Prime the spray pump any time you have not used your spray for longer than 7 days.
- Tilt your head back, press one nostril closed and insert the tip of the bottle a short way into the other nostril. Not too far up though.
- Pump the spray bottle and sniff gently at the same time. Then pull the tip of bottle away from your nose.
- Repeat with the other nostril. Avoid blowing your nose for 15 minutes.
Store Nasonex at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep in an upright position with the cover on the nasal spray pump when not in use. Throw the medication away after you have used 180 sprays.
Missed Dosage
Take Nasonex as soon as you remember the missed dose. If it is almost time for your next dose, do not take the one you missed but go back to your regular scheduled time. Do not take 2 doses at once to make up the missed dose.What to avoid when taking Nasonex
Nasonex can lower blood cells in your body that help fight infections. This can make it easier to bleed from an injury or get sick from being around others who are not well.Avoid getting Nasonex in your eyes. If you do, rinse with water and call your doctor.
Side effects of Nasonex:
While taking Nasonex, you may suffer some mild side effects. This is not a complete list of side effects. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.- Headache
- Stuffy nose, sore throat, cough
- Muscle or joint pain
- Nausea
- White patches or sores inside or around your nose
Get emergency medical help if these signs of allergic reactions occur:
hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking Flonase ands contact your doctor if you have any of these side effects:
- Severe on going nose bleeds
- Sores in the nose that won’t heal
- Wheezing, trouble breathing
- Vision problems
- Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
Not recommended for people who
Before taking Nasonex, tell your doctor if you are allergic to mometasone or any form of drugs or if you have:- Glaucoma or cataracts
- Herpes simplex virus of your eyes
- Tuberculosis
- Sores/ulcers inside your nose
- Had an injury or surgery of your nose recently
- Any other infection or illness
- Taking prescription or over-the-counter medications (including vitamins, minerals and herbal products
