The Generic name for Rhinocort is Budesonide Nasal.
Rhinocort (Budesonide Nasal) is an anti-inflammatory steroid nasal spray. It prevents the release of the substances in the body that cause inflammation. Rhinocort is used to treat the nasal symptoms of sneezing, congestion, runny nose and watery eyes caused by seasional and year round allergies and hay fever. It is also known to help keep nasal polyps from returning after surgery to remove them.

Take this medication as it directed by your doctor. Do not take larger amounts than directedAdults and Children 12 Years and Older:
The recommended starting dosage is 1 spray (64 mcg) into each nostril once per day.
Maximum total daily dosage of Rhinocort you should take is 4 sprays (256 mcg) in each nostril.
Children 6 to 12 Years:
The recommended starting dosage is 1 spray (64 mcg) into each nostril once per day.
Maximum total daily dosage of Rhinocort you should take is 2 sprays (128 mcg) in each nostril. Effectiveness and safety have not been established for children under 6 with taking Rhinocort.
To take Rhinocort:
- Blow your nose gently.
- Before using the spray, shake the spray bottle gently then prime the pump 8 times, away from your face, until a fine mist appears. Prime the spray pump any time you have not used your spray for longer than 2 days. If more than 2 weeks have passed, rinse the applicator and prime with 2 sprays.
- Shake bottle before each use. Tilt your head back, press one nostril closed and insert the tip of the bottle a short way into the other nostril. Not too far up though.
- Pump the spray bottle and sniff gently at the same time. Then pull the tip of bottle away from your nose.
- Repeat with the other nostril. Avoid blowing your nose for 15 minutes.
Store Rhinocort at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep in an upright position with the cover on the nasal spray pump when not in use. Throw the medication away after you have used 120 sprays, even if medication is still left in bottle.
Missed Dosage
Take Rhinocort as soon as you remember the missed dose. If it is nearly time for your next dose, do not take the missed dose but go back to your regular scheduled time. Do not take an extra dose of Rhinocort to make up the missed dose.What to avoid when taking Rhinocort
Avoid getting Rhinocort in your eyes when priming the pump. If this does happen, rinse with water and call your doctor. Rhinocort can also lower the blood cells in your body, which makes you more susceptible to getting infections from other people. It is advised that you avoid people who are sick or have infections. If you come into contact with someone with chicken pox or measles, contact your doctor as these conditions could be serious or fatal to anyone taking Rhinocort.Side effects of Rhinocort:
While taking Rhinocort, you may suffer some mild side effects. This is not a complete list of side effects. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.- Dry sore throat or cough
- Irritation in your nose
- Pain, swelling, burning, itching or irritation in your throat
- Sores or white patches inside or around your nose
Get emergency medical help if these signs of allergic reactions occur:
hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking Rhinocort and contact your doctor if you have any of these side effects:
- Sever or ongoing nose bleeds
- Sores in the nose that won’t heal
- Wheezing, trouble breathing
- Vision problems
- Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
Not recommended for people who
Before using Rhinocort, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Budesonide Nasal or any of the following drugs:- HIV / AIDS medication such as: Nelfinavir (Viracept) or Ritonavir (Norvir)
- Any antibiotics such as, Clarithromycin (Biaxin), Erythromycin (E.E.S., E-Mycin, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin), Itraconazole (Sporanox), Ketoconazole (Nizoral), or Troleandomycin (Tao)
- An “SSRI” antidepressant such as Fluoxetine (Prozac), Fluvoxamine (Luvox), or Paroxetine (Paxil)
- A Tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), amoxapine (Ascendin), clomipramine (Anafranil), desipramine (Norpramin), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), protriptyline (Vivactil), or trimipramine (Surmontil)
- Any prescription or over-the-counter medications you use (this includes vitamins, minerals and herbal products)
- Liver disease
- Glaucoma or cataracts
- Herpes simplex virus of your eyes
- Tuberculosis or any other illness or infection
- Sores or ulcers inside your nose
- If you have recently had an injury or surgery on your nose
This medication is unlikely to affect or be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not start to take Rhinocort without first consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is unknown if Rhinocort passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Talk to your doctor before using Rhinocort if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Steroids can affect growth in children. If you think your child is not growing at a normal rate while taking Rhinocort, talk to your doctor.
