The Generic name for Xyzal is Levocetirizine.

Xyzal (Levocetirizine) is a H1-receptor antagonist which is used for the relief of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms. It is also an antihistamine which helps treat skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives) by blocking the chemical histamine in your body which causes hives and allergies.

Recommended Doses

Take this medication as it directed by your doctor. Do not take larger amounts than directed

Adults and Children 12 Years and Older:
One 5mg tablet in the evening.

Children 6 to 11 Years:
Half (2.5mg) 5mg tablet in the evening.

To take Xyzal:

Store Xyzal at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.

Missed Dosage

Take Xyzal as soon as you remember the missed dose. If it is nearly time for your next dose, do not take the missed dose but go back to your regular scheduled time. Do not take an extra dose of Xyzal to make up the missed dose.

What to avoidwhen taking Xyzal

Do not drink alcohol or use medicines that may cause drowsiness (eg sleep aids, muscle relaxants) while using Xyzal. Xyzal may cause drowsiness. Use only with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.

Side effects of Xyzal:

While taking Xyzal, you may suffer some mild side effects. This is not a complete list of side effects. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect. Below are very uncommon side effects which people generally do not experience
Get emergency medical help if these signs of allergic reactions occur:
Rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in chest; swelling of your face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat; unusual hoarseness. This medication is may affect or be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not start to take Xyzal without first consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Xyzal does pass into breast milk and can harm a nursing baby. Do not take Xyzal if breastfeeding your baby without talking to your doctor about the safety of Xyzal and breast feeding.
